endrik Heinz is an associate professor in the Department of Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron and a faculty scientist at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright− Patterson Air Force Base. He received a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering in 2003 and an M.S. in chemistry in 2000, both from ETH Zurich, Switzerland. His research interests include the simulation of energy and biomaterials, organic−inorganic interfaces, mineralogy, catalysis, and the development of computational methods. Tzu-Jen Lin has been a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Akron in the Heinz group since fall 2010. He completed an M.Phil. degree in chemistry at the University of Manchester (U.K.) and a B.Sc. at National Cheng Kung University. His research focuses on the development and application of simulation models for bone minerals to understand interactions with biomacromolecules and pharmaceuticals for the treatment of osteoporosis. Ratan K. Mishra is currently a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. He completed a Ph.D. at the University of Akron in the Heinz group in 2012 and holds a B.E. degree from Visveswaraya Technological University, India, in chemical engineering. He investigates the interaction of polymers with inorganic surfaces in construction materials and their mechanical properties using molecular dynamics simulation. Fateme S. Emami has been a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Akron in the Heinz group since fall 2008. She received an M.S. degree at the University of Akron and a B. S. degree in chemical engineering from Iran University of Science and Engineering. Her research aims at understanding biosilicification and specific biomaterial/silica interactions using various computational methods and tools.
