Biographical Sketches Dr. Wei Deng received her B.S. and M.Sc. degrees in chemistry from Shannxi Normal University, PR China, in 2000 and 2003, respectively. She was a research associate in the chemistry department at Tsinghua University, PR China, from 2004 to 2007, investigating the synthesis, characterization, and biological applications of up-converting phosphor nanoparticles. Since 2008, she has been a Ph.D. student in the physics and enginering department at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, and she received her degree in 2011. Her Ph.D. project was focused on metal-nanostructure-enhanced fluorescence and its applications in bioassays and bioimaging. Professor Ewa M. Goldys holds a Personal Chair at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. With her research group, she develops novel approaches to biochemical and medical sensing and diagnostics, documented in over 200 publications. She established the interdisciplinary “MQ BioFocus” Research Centre at Macquarie University and the international ARC/NHMRC Research Network “Fluorescence Applications in Biotechnology and Life Sciences”. She is a Fellow of the OSA.
