Biomimetic Synthesis of Antimalarial Naphthoquinones [J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2005, 127, 6276-6283]. Jeremiah P. Malerich, Thomas J. Maimone, Gregory I. Elliott, and Dirk Trauner* In our paper, we reported the catalytic oxa 6π-electrocyclization of compound 59 to yield pyran 27 (Schemes 16 and 17). Unfortunately, the structure of 59 was misassigned. On the basis of a comparison with model system A, whose structure was unequivocally confirmed by X-ray crystallography, we have reassigned the structure of compound 59 as its isomer B. This isomer is presumably in equilibrium with the originally assigned structure under the reaction conditions.

Consequently, we retract our claim to have catalyzed an oxa 6π-electrocyclization. JA069018L 10.1021/ja069018l Published on Web 01/23/2007
