Di [bis (dimethylamino) chloroborane]tris[tetrachlorotitanium (IV) ] . l a An Infrared Study G. S. Kykerlb and E. P. Schram''

Contributionf r o m the Evans Chemical Laboratory, The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio 43210. Received November 2, 1967 Abstract: An evaluation of the solid-state infrared spectrum of { [(CH3)2N]2BC1}2{TiC14)3 indicates that the ligand [(CHJZNI~BCI utilizes both nitrogens in coordinate-covalentbridging between two tetrachlorotitanium(1V)moieties. Assignments for the fundamental vibrational modes of the complex are presented along with reassignments for several group vibraions previously reported for several aminoborane derivatives. Conclusions based on additional infrared studies indicate that the complex { [(CH&NJZBCL1 Z { TiCh}3 is partly dissociated in CHzCIzto TiC14,[(CH3)2N12BC1, and unidentified intermediate complexes. Complete dissociation to TiC1, and [(CH&NI2BC1takes place in the gas phase at temperatures >23" at a total pressure
