This work discusses ecological perspectives of the atmosphere. It explains the composition of the atmosphere and the processes which regulate it, and shows the consequences of man's interference with these processes. The author suggests reforestation as a means of mitigating atmospheric excesses of carbon dioxide.

This book explains how in earlier times, pollution and other problems stemming from the mining and use of coal were not held to be of much consequence. Then, as the problems became publicly recognized, a strong movement emerged for various controls and regulations with respect to mining, transportation, and combustion of coal. “The result has been a degree of regulation and interface between business and government unimaginable in the Eisenhower era,” the author points out.
