BOOK REVIEWS I n the Part I1 methods section, most of the common clinical procedures are covered although no mention is nude of the very gopular mieru CO-content method using the Xztelsun gsscmetcr nor of t,hr newer eoul~mrtric rhlorid? procedures. Indeed, in thc chloride pruredure desc~ibrd, one is surprised to note on page 96 t,hnt t,he orange color at th? m d - p i n t is caused by n~oleculnr Fr(CKS). rather tlmn t , h ~FnSCN++ or similar ion. However, in spitc of such stst, rrnrnt, sas bhe above and references to nn "urenge rhro~nateion" on page 01 and t,he enlculatiun of a KaCI runrentrntiun in mine from a chloride analysis, the author iu to hu rammended for seeking exp1crn:~tions fcrr many of the pitfalls in these proredures. The hrirf discussion of the physiological significance of the rrsolts should intwost many workers in this firld. Unfortunately, ciight pages near the md of the reviewer's copy were difficult to rrsd because of bad "print-through" frnm d h e r the prereding or the folknving pages. Many nrarr d~bonninationshave been incorporntrd into t,his edition, which like the original edition, u-as writt,rn rspeaidy for those just starting in the firld. More experienced workers will doubtless profer one of the more rornurchonsivr treatises.
