New Products Gc/Ms System The MAT 111 "Gnom," an integrated mass spectrometer/gas chromatograph system combines a Varian Aerograph 1400 series gas chromatograph with a magnetic sector mass spectrometer from Varian/MAT GmbH of Bremen, W. Germany. The slit separator interface is continuously adjustable for carrier gas flow rates from 1 ml/min to 100 ml/min; temperature range is from ambient to 300 °C. The mass spectrometer provides a mass range from 1 to 1000 with resolution of 600 (10% valley) standard and 1000 (10% valley) with small slit width. There are various options. Low-Cost Nmr A simplified high-resolution nmr instrument, priced in the $5000 range, designated the Model Em-300, will produce from 70 to 100 identifiable spectra per day. The instrument, especially useful for smaller colleges, is capable of routine proton analysis, quantitative and qualitative mixture analysis, organic structure determinations, isotopic substitutions, and functional group identification. The desk-top unit uses a 7046-gauss permanent magnet and requires no cooling water supply. Deliveries are scheduled for January of next vear. Digital Signal Averaging System The 610/102S digital signal averaging system provides 100 nsec per point resolution, said to be 10 times better than previous signal averagers. The 10 MHz A / D converter has a sixbit resolution, allowing rapid signal enhancement with relatively few sweeps. Input, sensitivity is from 50 mV to 50 V full scale. The system combines a Model 610 transient recorder with the digital signal averager. Applications for this system include pulsed nmr research, high-frequency/high-resolution vibration analysis, and high-speed temperature jump recording among others. $7400.
