NSF Fellowships Open The National Science Foundation is now accepting applications for 1200 fellowships in various fields of science, mathematics, and some selected social sciences. The awards will be announced in March 1959. Selection of recipients is based on ability. Applicants must be TJ. S. citizens. Predoctoral program applications must be in by Jan. 5. These provide an annual stipend ranging from $1800$2200, payment of tuition and fees, dependency allowances for married fellows, and limited travel allowance. Postdoctoral applications are due by Dec. 22. Provisions are similar to those for predoctoral except that the stipend is $4500. NSF also supports senior postdoc toral and science faculty fellowship programs. The first apply to scientists who are 5 years or more past the doctoral degree; the second to college science teachers with a bachelor's de gree and 3 years of college or univer sity teaching. Details concerning these programs are available from the Fellowship Sec tion, Division of Scientific Personnel and Education, National Science Foun dation, Washington 25, D. C.
