Buyer’s M Guide Air Protection Air filtration for HVAC. Camfil Farr introduces its line of consolidated air filtration products and capabilities for the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) market. DustMASTER Enviro Systems offers its DustMASTER systems, which are used to stabilize waste powders and fine materials and convert them to a nondusty product. Haze elimination. AMISTCO Separations Products, Inc., offers turnkey skid-mounted separator packages that effectively eliminate plasticizer and solvent fumes from the curing oven exhaust in vinyl flooring and wallpaper manufacturing processes. Exhaust is blown through a prefilter to remove larger particles; candle-type mist eliminators collect and eliminate the submicrometer blue haze. Camfil Farr introduces the Quad Mist Eliminator (QMX) that removes oil and water mist and related particulate matter from air with high efficiency. The unit protects workers and equipment and keeps facilities cleaner. The QMX comprises four stages of filtration to provide progressively higher levels of mist removal efficiency. It is used mainly in metal

The instrument uses Windows-based operating software and is easy to set up and configure. It also is ideal for longterm and short-term laboratorybased biodegradation and biodegradability testing for aerobic and anaerobic analysis. Information Tools Tank storage management. BEM Systems, Inc., announces STOICS (Storage Tank Operation, Inventory & Compliance System), the first tank management and compliance software package developed specifically for managers of above- and belowground tank systems, at single or multiple facilities. Laboratory High-performance fume hood. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) announces a new laboratory fume hood that saves large amounts of energy, enhances worker safety, offers lower costs for new labs, and has a simpler design than do state-of-the-art hoods. Monitoring

CO2 monitor. Thermo Gas Tech introduces the Model IAQ carbon dioxide monitor that can measure CO2 concentrations from 0 to 5000 ppm. The monitor uses a nondispersive in260 A

frared sensing system for quick, reliable response. A 0.4-in. high LCD display provides a real-time readout of CO2 concentrations. An alarm is given when the CO2 concentration rises above a user-adjustable point. Longer intervals between recalibration are possible. They are approved by Factory Mutual Research for combustible gas and vapor detection. The analyzers can sample atmospheres containing little or no oxygen and are robust enough for use in harsh environments, even beyond 1500 °F. Control Instruments Corp. announces its 670 Series line of process analyzers for lower flammable limit and lower explosive limit monitoring. CEA Instruments announces its RI-555 series of single-gas, dual-range nondispersive infrared gas analyzers, which can continuously measure CO2, CO, CH4, ethane, propane, or isobutane in percentage levels up to 99% full scale. The gas sample is drawn into the unit by an internal pump, and concentrations are displayed on a large LED digital readout. Recorder output and a user-adjustable gas alarm are standard features. Prevention Compostable packaging. Cortec Corp. announces the development of Eco-Film and Eco-Corr Film, non-

toxic, biodegradable, compostable packaging that prevents pollution and the accumulation of solid and hazardous waste yet offers resistance to water, oils, and oxygen, together with superior tensile strength. Eco-Corr also has the attribute of VCI corrosion-inhibiting control for metal parts and machinery. The products were developed in cooperation with the University of Minnesota. Treatment All-organic oil absorbent. Sorbent Products Co. announces Cansorb, an all-organic oil-only absorbent made from high-quality sphagnum peat moss. The product simultaneously absorbs oil and repels water, thanks to a bitumen wax in the peat moss that confers the product’s hydrophobic quality. Centek Industries now offers its Mycelx line of filtration and spill-absorption products that remove fuel, oil, gasoline sheen, and other hydrocarbons in a single pass. The principle is patented molecular technology that allows the products to bond with and capture hydrocarbons instantly. Applications include boats’ bilge systems. Hammonds introduces a new generation of tablet water chlorination systems that are considered safer and more efficient and dependable than any other chlorination system on the market. These systems offer a plug-and-play design that requires no custom engineering. A magnetic stir bar and motor create a vortex in a small water chamber into which calcium hypochlorite tablets are injected into the water supply at controlled rates.
