the high complexation rate of sodium ions. The complexation mechanism of calixarene with sodium ions is as yet not known but should be the subject of our continuing studies. Acknowledgmenr. The NMR measurements were carried out

M.Z. Hoffman: Cage Escape Yields from the Quenching of *Ru(bpy)32+by Methylviologen in Aqueous Solution. Page 3458. The value of t450= 6100 M-' cm-' for MV" used was taken from an extrapolation of a plot of log E vs X in the literature.' We now realize that the plot is, in fact, that of c vs A, with the y-axis values expressed as log c. Our independent determination of €450 leads to a value of 800 M-l cm-I. The value of c4% for *Ru(bpy):+ was taken as 7000 M-' cm-l? Recently, ~ ~ ~ ~ ( * R u ( b p y-) e450(Ru(bpy)32+) ,~+) has been determined to be -9800 M-' cm-';, since c450(Ru(bpy)32+)= 14600 M-I cm-', ~ ~ ~ ~ ( * R u ( b p y=) ,4800 ~ + ) M-' cm-I. Thus, $I = 0.797(Af/Ao), requiring all the values of $I that are presented in Tables 11-IV to be multiplied by a factor of 0.731. Since qcc = 4/qq, all the values of vcc in those tables must also - 1) vs p l / * be multiplied by the same factor. The plot of (ambient ionic strength or controlled by Na2C204and/or Na2S04) is linear with a slope of 4.7 and an intercept of 3.1. (1) Summers, L. A.
