California Meeting The ACS California Section will hold a meeting-in-miniature Dec. 17 and 18 at the University of California, Berke ley. Three full-day sessions will run concurrently on Monday (organic chemistry, magnetic spectroscopy, and radiation chemistry). Two full-day sessions will run concurrently on Tues day (polymer chemistry and gas phase chromatography). Elliot Bergman is program chair man; Calvin M. Coppinger, chairman for organic chemistry; S. W. Nicksic and R. L. LeTourneau, magnetic spec troscopy; C. D. Wagner, radiation chemistry; W. A. Hewett, polymer chemistry; and K. P. Dimick, gas phase chromatography.

1963 Colloid Symposium The 37th National Colloid Symposium, sponsored by the ACS Division of Colloid and Surface Chemistry, will be held at Carleton University, Ot tawa, Ont., June 24 to 26, 1963. Hosts are the university and the Na tional Research Council of Canada. Chairman of the symposium commit tee is Dr. B. Roger Ray of Washington State University, Pullman, Wash. Di vision members will receive preprints of papers about June 1. A title or letter of intent should go to Dr. E. A. Flood, Division of Pure Chemistry, Na tional Research Council, Ottawa 2, Ont. (solid-gas interface); or to Dr. Eric Hutchinson, Department of Chemistry, Stanford University, Stan ford, Calif. (solubilization phe nomena), by Jan. 15 and two copies of the paper in form for publication in The Journal of Physical Chemistry should be in the hands of one of the chairmen by Feb. 2 1 . Correspondence on housing and registration should go to J. M. Holmes, Department of Chemistry, Carleton University, Ottawa, Ont. BRIEFS Water Pollution Abatement Workshop will be held in Cleveland, Jan. 16, 1963. It will consist of talks by indus try representatives and federal and state regulatory officials. Sponsor is the Manufacturing Chemists' Associa tion. The workshop is expected to at

tract water quality experts from Ohio, western Pennsylvania, upper New York, and Michigan.
