Calls for papers The ACS 40th Southwest Regional Meeting will be held Dec. 5-7, in Lub bock, Tex. The meeting is hosted by the South Plains Section. The general and program chairmen are Jerry L. Mills and Richard A. Bartsch, respectively, of Texas Tech University. Symposia topics include: Analysis of Polymers, Conformational and Configurational Analysis, Macrocyclic Ligands: Synthesis and Applications, Analytical Chemistry of Wine, Organometallic Re action Mechanisms, Innovative Under graduate and High School Instruction in Chemistry, ElectronTransfer and Related Reactions in Organic Chemistry, Inor ganic Chemistry and the Undergraduate Curriculum: When, What, and How Much, Surfactants for Enhanced Oil Re covery, Asymmetric Organic Synthesis, Biochemical Oxidations and Bioenergetics, Biochemical Regulation, and Forum on Hazardous Waste Management at Academic Institutions. General sessions in Analytical/Envi ronmental Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Undergraduate Research (poster session) will be offered. Papers reporting original data, tech niques, or reviews are invited. Three copies of abstracts on standard ACS forms should be sent by Aug. 17 to program chairman Richard A. Awards will be presented at a luncheon Thursday, Dec. 6. Social and recreational events planned for the meeting include a general mixer, Texas wine tasting, and a candlelight tour of the Texas Tech Ranching Heritage Center. A state-of-the-art Symposium on Deg radation of Materials Due to Acid Rain will be held June 17-19, 1985, at S t o p fer's Concourse Hotel in Arlington, Va. The symposium will be sponsored by the ACS Division of Industrial & Engineer ing Chemistry, and cosponsored by nu merous materials-oriented organiza tions. Papers are requested on the important aspects of materials degradation by acid rain including: (1) measurement and monitoring of environments and deg radation: (2) metallic corrosion: (3) deg radation of organics such as coatings, paints, plastics, and sealants; (4) masonry deterioration such as stone, concrete, mortar and brick; (5) economic factors. Authors should submit a 100-word abstract by Oct. 15 to Nancy Hadlock, ACS, 1155—16th St., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036. Workshop on Controlled Release Technology A workshop on Recent Developments in Controlled Release Technnology will be held on July 25-27 at the Bahia Mar Hotel, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The workshop will be sponsored by the ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry and the Controlled Release Society. The workshop will provide a forum for an in-depth exchange of information regarding recent developments in controlled release technology. The program follows.
