NEW PRODUCTS Prism-Grating Spectrophotometer Beckman's Instruments Division is now making the IR-7 prism-grating in frared spectrophotometer with grating operation throughout the 2.5 to 16.6μ. Introduced a little over a year ago as a custom-made unit, the double-monochromator IR-7 is now going into regu lar commercial production (ANAL. C H E M , October 1958, page 91A). P-10

portable model suitable for detecting very small amounts of ionizable com pounds. Detector time constant, de pending on the relative flow rate of the carrier gas, may be as low as 1 / 4 sec ond when using a capillary column.

Analog Output System The new analog output system, an nounced by Bendix Aviation Corp.,

P-8 Stereomicroscope An entirely new line of stereomicroscopes being introduced by Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. features a completely dust-sealed optical system and "StereoZoom" magnification—a new concept that makes possible a continuous flow of magnification, infinite within the range of the instrument. The new line eliminates need for sep arate lenses and nosepieces, prevents blackout when changing power. A

power pod encloses the entire "eye" of the instrument—lenses, eyepieces, and mirrors—in a single unit, protecting it from dust and other foreign particles. Working distance is constant at 4 inches without using lens attachments. A wide field of view lets the viewer see large parts of the specimen, per mits him to work on the specimen quickly and precisely. P-9
