The sentence “A series of enzymes called immunophilins, which elicit immunosuppressive effects, catalyzes the interconversion of cis and trans rotamers of peptidyl bonds” should read as follows: “A series of enzymes called immunophilins, which elicit immunosuppressive effects, catalyzes the interconversion of cis and trans rotamers of peptidyl prolyl bonds”. The same paragraph also states that these enzymes are collectively known as rotamases. The term rotamase, however, does not agree with the standard rules of the enzyme nomenclature commission. Such enzymes should adequately be denoted as peptidyl prolyl cis-trans isomerases or PPIs. In addition, only two families of structurally unrelated PPIs exhibit immunosuppressive activity and may be denoted as immunophilins: cyclophilins and the subfamily for which FK506 binding protein is prototypic.
