Despite these advances, there remain no examples of synthetic Ru or Os complexes that demonstrate stepwise protonation of M-N2 to generate M-NxHy species, or that catalyze N2RR.12 The study of a homologous, isostructural series of complexes (Fe, Ru, Os) will help to delineate important factors for N2RR catalyst design. A limitation with respect to achieving N2RR catalysis by either Ru or Os is that low-valent redox states (
