The rate of oxidation of cramorphous"carbon by air over the temperature range 200" to 450" C. is greatly increased by the presence of admixed copper or zinc chromite. The quantitative increase in oxidation speed due to the presence of the chromite is shown to be a function of the rate of activated adsorption of oxygen by the chromite used.
