C&EN Shipped to Europe by Air Last Week C&EN arrived in western Europe last week at the same time it was being delivered in the U.S., as the first pilot run of a new air shipment service the magazine will offer moved on schedule. This and next week's issues will also be shipped via KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, giving readers in western Europe a foretaste of what air service will mean. It will be offered on a regular basis next Jan. 1 for an additional $6.00, as announced last week (C&EN, Oct. 16, page 2 4 ) . Attesting to the speed with which information can be transmitted these days, pictures on this page showing the processing of the first shipment were returned by jet at the beginning of last week in time to make this week's issue. ARRIVING. After an overnight flight from New York's Idlewild airport, some 4000 copies of C&EN for subscribers in western Europe arrived at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam last week. This was the first of three pilot runs of an air shipment service C&EN will offer beginning this coming January. Subscribers electing the rapid shipment will get copies 10 days to two weeks earlier than at present
MAILING. Unpacked, copies were immediately delivered to the Netherlands post office at the airport. Postal authorities promise delivery within three days, putting C&EN in subscribers' hands at the same time as domestic subscribers receive it
