Just Accepted “Just Accepted” manuscripts have been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication. They are posted online prior to technical editing, formatting for publication and author proofing. The American Chemical Society provides “Just Accepted” as a free service to the research community to expedite the dissemination of scientific material as soon as possible after acceptance. “Just Accepted” manuscripts appear in full in PDF format accompanied by an HTML abstract. “Just Accepted” manuscripts have been fully peer reviewed, but should not be considered the official version of record. They are accessible to all readers and citable by the Digital Object Identifier (DOI®). “Just Accepted” is an optional service offered to authors. Therefore, the “Just Accepted” Web site may not include all articles that will be published in the journal. After a manuscript is technically edited and formatted, it will be removed from the “Just Accepted” Web site and published as an ASAP article. Note that technical editing may introduce minor changes to the manuscript text and/or graphics which could affect content, and all legal disclaimers and ethical guidelines that apply to the journal pertain. ·Pore types and morphology of marine-continental transitional shales were investigated using FE-SEM.

21

·The MIP and N2 /CO2 GA techniques were combined for quantitative characterization of full-sized pores.

22

·Micropores provide the dominant SSAs, whereas micropores and macropores occupy the majority of PV.

23

·Fractal characteristics of Longtan shales were investigated by FHH model based on N2 GA data.

24

·Correlation among petrological component, pore structure parameters and fractal dimensions were analyzed.

ABSTACT: Despite the recent significant progress reviewed in marine and continental shale gas reservoirs, there

49

is no generally investigation concerning marine-continental transitional shales, especially in the research of the

50

pore structure and fractal characteristics of marine-continental shale reservoirs. In this study, the pore structure

51

characteristics of twelve typical marine-continental transitional shale samples of the Upper Permian Longtan

52

Formation collected from Southern Sichuan Basin were analyzed, combining techniques of TOC content

53

determination, X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), high pressure

54

mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), and low-pressure N2/CO2 adsorption. And the pore fractal characteristics of

55

shales were also analyzed using FHH model with N2 adsorption data. Not only the effects of TOC content and

56

mineralogical compositions for pore structure parameters and fractal dimensions were analyzed, but also the

57

relationships between pore structure parameters and fractal dimensions were discussed. The results showed that,

58

the macropores (>50nm) mainly develop within or between clay minerals, while the micropores (
