CHEMICO Offers The Wilton Continuous Process For

TAR DISTILLATION Pitch recirculation reduces coking o f pipe still . . . l o w e r s maintenance cost

From Tar You Can PROCESS In the Wilton process hot pitch is continu ously circulated at high speed through the distillation column to the pipe still and back. Tar products of the desired characteristics are removed in continuous streams.

ADVANTAGES Fewer shutdowns — Turbulence of the pitch in the pipe still prevents coking even when the entry of crude coal tar is stopped. This reduces shutdowns for cleaning and repairs . . . substantially lowers maintenance costs. Higher yield — Corrosive liquids and light oils are distilled off immediately upon intro duction of crude tar to the hot recirculating pitch. This not only insures a high yield of oil products, but also reduces corrosion of the equipment. Lower fuel costs — Maximum heat exchange occurs between hot finished products and

cold feed. N o re-distillation of oil products is necessary. Various fuels, including pitch from the same unit, or a combination of fuels can be used. Greater flexibility —• Any product can be var ied without affecting the others. Plants can be worked on quarter, half or full load, without detriment to the pipe still. Less space — Installations for modern-size, coke-oven batteries occupy 1/3 to 1/2 l e s s space than comparable batch plants. Automatic controls — Centralized, automatic controls insure constant quality of products as well as lower labor operating costs.
