BOOH REVIEWf sulfate solution on the surface of a piece of magnesium ribbon which is immersed in the solution. Such a conclusion is in contradiction with the implication in the experiment that no silver is lost fram the utensil bythis technique. The first impression of the reviewer was that the experiments which could be done a t home were an attractive asset to the manual. A little reflection about several of those experiments suggests this would not necessarily he true. One experiment suggests that the student can comparethe fire retardation properties of same fiber samples, fram discarded clothing, which have been treated with the fire retardant mixture to the properties of control samples of the same fibers. This would he done by attempting to burn those samples. In spite of the admonition that the burning tests should be conducted under the direct supervision of the teacher, the instructor and his institution might well be held liable for damages if a student should attempt to complete the experiment a t home and the test eoes awrv.
