Activation Analysis Symposia A series of regional scientific sym posia on activation analysis will be held in various parts of the country starting April 30. Sponsor is the General Atomic Division of General Dynamics Corp. The April 30 meeting is being held at the Robert Treat Hotel, Newark, N. J. The May 4th meeting will be held at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. Other meetings at different locations are being scheduled. The oneday symposia will run from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. Topics include activation anal ysis theory, new developments in gamma ray spectrometry, activation analysis with accelerator-produced 14 m.e.v. neutrons, activation analysis with modern research reactors, attainable sensitivities of detection of various ele ments in a variety of types of samples, and interesting recent applications of activation analysis to various fields. Further details are available from H. R. Zeitlin at General Atomic, P.O. Box 608, San Diego 12, Calif.

ORNL Gatlinburg Conference The Third Conference on Nuclear Reactor Chemistry and the Sixth Con ference on Analytical Chemistry in Nu clear Reactor Technology will be held at Gatlinburg, Tenn., October 9 to 11, under the sponsorship of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The Third Conference on Nuclear Reactor Chemistry will emphasize chemical behavior of reactor materials. Subjects include: preparation of fuel, moderator, coolant, and nuclear poison materials and their properties in the presence and absence of nuclear radia tion; particle behavior in nuclear re actor accidents; chemical problems of organic-moderated and organic-cooled reactors ; and the chemistry of corrosion processes in nuclear reactors. Papers on these and other topics of interest to reactor chemists are welcomed. The Sixth Conference on Analytical Chemistry in Nuclear Reactor Tech nology will include: use of isotopes in analytical chemistry, instrumentation, analysis of organic moderators, spec troscopy, analytical developments in radiochemistry and nucleonics. Papers of interest to analytical chemists on the foregoing topics or closely related sub jects, including review papers, are solicited. Authors should submit an abstract of 400 to 600 words on their paper not
