CANE SUGAR

Of A t many Oliver United filters available, those are the « u i more commonly used in

Two Oliver United units are "standard" equipment for this industry—Oliver-Campbell Cane Mud Filter and the Sweetland Pressure Filter.

And, incidentally, i n the metal mining group, aver 1400 Oliver Filters are used for washing cyanide residues —in a sense a chemical processing job.

SLURRIES AND CEMENT I n this group, the American Continuous Filter predominates because of its unique disc construction with operations in a vertical plane which provides large filter area i n a small space* Many American Filters are used for dewatering blast furnace fluedust and cement slurries. * a • Other important dewatering jobs can be found i n the metal-mining industry where hundreds of American Filters are used for dewatering notation concentrates of all kinds. Dorreo Continuous Filters—with filtering aurfaeo on the inside of the drum — are used for dewatering very heavy, fast-

The Oliver Prccoat Filter is also used in a field allied to the sugar industry — glucose. Iti operating economy has greatly reduced the cost of handling this difficult product. BEET SUGAR For years, several Oliver United units have been rendering good service in this industry. The standard Oliver Continuous Filter is used for handling the carbonation juices and saccharate solutions; the Kelly Pressure Filter and the Oliver-Borden Thickener are wed for preparing carbonation juices for the Oliver Filter operation.

OU have a filtration or clarification problem • . • Maybe it's t o get better washing • • . higher clarity . • • improved capacity. Mayb e y o u have a new solution t o b e filtered and y o u are n o t certain which would b e better—continuous vacuum or intermittent batch filtration. And how about t h e corrosion? Is that a controlling factor? Or i n sulation to retain h e a t or refrigeration? The point we wish t o emphasize i s t h a t here at Oliver United y o u can get sound recommendations o n all of these contributing factors b e cause our large staff of engineers has had considerable experience i n every process requiring filtration or clarification. Our work goes back thirty-five years. We have two wellequipped laboratories for large scale

INDUSTRIAL AND SEWAGE WASTES An industry in which Olirer United did all the pioneering work on sludge dewatering with the result that scores of cities now operate modern sewage-treatment plants equipped with Oliver Continuous Filters. It was no simple matter to adapt filtration to sewage sludges. Conditioning methods had to be devised in order to make the solids filterable. Oliver United engineers helped work out the successful methods used today.

M I N E R VI. OILS For years, the Sweetlamd Pressure Filter was "standard" equipment for contact clay recovery plants, I * still is widely used for filtering clays and for certain conditions is the best filter obtainable. Recently, however, the Oliver Precoavt Filter has been making its mark i n this field, offering not only greater efficiency and reductions in oil losses, but much lower operating and main* tenance costs. Still another filter is the Oliver De-waxing Filter. A large unit was recently ordered by a vest coast refinery. Oliver United engineers nave done considerable work in the petroleum industry in connection with new methods and units for filtering or clarifying many of the petroleum products.

VEGETABLE OILS tests and portable equipment for plant tests. Finally, our recommendations as to method and type are not biased by any limitation of equipment for we make every proved type of filter used for industrial purposes. So wby n o t tell us about your problem?

Again it's the Oliver Precoat Filter that is opening u p new and better methods for filtering these products. Such operations require a fresh filter surface at all times and the "Precoat" ii t h e only filter on the market which can provide this.

WOOD PULP PRODUCTS Another industry in which Oliver United pioneered modern continuous filtration with the result that over 1200 large units are already installed in pulp and paper mills all over the world. Among the niters now made are: Oliver Saveall Oliver Decker Oliver Ringvalve Black Liquor Washer Oliver Bleach Washer (rubber-protected) Oliver Lime-Mud Filter Oliver High Density Thickener Oliver Board Forming Machine Each of these unite has its own distinct design because each operation is different from the others. This industry provides an excellent example of Oliver United's service in studying problems and designing units to solve them.

BEVERAGES AND FRUIT JUICES These are clarifying problems and the most effective units for the work are the Sweetland Pressure Filter* Oliver Pressure Filter* and the Oliver Precoat Filter.
