CHEMISTRY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINEThe University of Buenos Aires comprises six divisions, one of which is the Facultad de Ciencias Exactas Flsicas y Naturales. A School of Chemistry was created in this latter division a t the beginning of the century and awards the diploma of Doctor en &mica (Doctor of Chemistry). In addition, there are included in this division the following Schools: (1) Engineering (civil and industrial); (2) Architecture; (3) Natural History? and (4) Mathematics, which awards the diploma of Ooctor en Ciencias Ffsico matemdticas (Doctor of Mathematics). 907

All courses, with the exceptions of those marked A or B are obligatory. The student may elect either all A or all B courses. It will be noted that the B courses are for those students interested in industrial chemistry. In addition to the course work listed above, a student must present a thesis before satisfying the requirements for a diploma. The course is given in two sessions annually-March 15th to June 30th, August 1st to November 15th. Unfortunately, a t present, the School of Cherqistry is located in an old building with inadequate equipment for laboratory work.
