New Products Micro osmometer Model AO-10 is a microprocessor-con trolled, freezing-point depression os mometer that can determine the osmo lality of serum, plasma, urine, and other biological fluids. Features include a 24position automated sample changer, sample size of 30 μ ι , continuous elec tronic self-diagnostic monitoring, and RS-232C interface for data transmis sion to an external computer. Micro Diagnostics Inc. 411

Valve station Waters automated valve station con sists of two six-port, high-pressure col umn-switching valves, three two-way solvent select valves, and an internal 12-V power supply for valve-switching actuation. It can be used to automate on-line sample cleanup, trace enrich ment, methods switching, column flushout and equilibration, and sequen tial analytical separations. Waters Chromatography Division 412

Sample concentrator CDS 330 GC sample concentrator auto matically extracts and concentrates trace organics from gas, liquid, and sol

id samples and injects them into a GC with a packed, split capillary, or nar row-bore column. It can be equipped with two cryogenic traps, one internal and the other installed on the injection zone of the GC column, at the end of the heated transfer line. Chemical Data Systems 413

Micro mixer Micro mixer for HPLC and FIA systems, made of 316 stainless steel, has an in ternal volume of 9 μ\- and is fitted with a 17-μιτι filter screen to protect against contamination. Available as a tee configuration with two inlets and one outlet, it uses a series of 36 spin cham bers that subject incoming liquids to a vigorously repeated mixing process. The Lee Company 414 C 0 2 monitor Riken RI-211 is a miniature, micropro cessor-controlled, continuous C 0 2 IR gas monitor. It measures the concentra tion of C 0 2 in the range of 0-10,000 ppm in 100-ppm increments. Ranges of 0-2000 ppm, 0-5000 ppm, 0 - 2 % , and 0-5 % are also available. A built-in alarm is activated at the OSHA limit of 5000 ppm. CEA Instruments Inc. 415

MESA-710 X-ray fluorescence analyzer permits simultaneous measurement of nick el, vanadium, and iron in oil products without sample preparation. The range of measure ment for all three elements is 0-500 ppm with repeatability of 1 ppm Ni, 2 ppm V, and 2 ppm Fe at less than 100 ppm. Horiba In struments 402

UV-VIS UltroSpec II is a single-beam spectro photometer with a wavelength range of 200-900 nm. Features include micro processor-controlled automatic calibra tion at switch on, change of wave lengths, and autozeroing; a six-position cell holder for standard, semimicro, and micro cells; and an RS-232 interface. Special cell holders and Apple He or HP-85 compatible software for wave length scanning and reaction rate mea surement are available. LKB Instru ments, Inc. 416

Chemicals Digoxin EIA Epsilon enzyme immunoassay for di goxin requires 50 μ\- of serum and uses nonisotopic competitive binding. Re sults, available in 40 min, are consis tently reproducible and demonstrate a correlation coefficient to RIA of r = 0.96. The dynamic range of the as say is 0.5 to 8.0 ng/mL with a minimum detectable concentration of 0.25 ng/ mL. Both interassay and intraassay CVs are under 1 0 % . Beckman 422

New Products SRM SRM 955, Lead in Blood, is intended for use in evaluating the accuracy of lead determinations in blood and in calibrat ing instrumentation for these determina tions. Four individual concentrations of lead in porcine blood are provided in polyethylene bottles. Nominal certified concentrations, in jtg/dL and /tmol/L, are 5.7, 0.27; 30.5, 1.47; 49.4, 2.38; and 73.2, 3.53. NBS 419 Solution standards Spectrochemical solution standards are designed to optimize the performance of AA, AFS, DCP, ICP, and XRF instru mentation. Certificates specifying ana lyzed data for more than 70 elements accompany each solution. Typical error of added elements is 0.2-0.4%. Sherba Analytical Lab Products 420 Hydrophilic gel FMP-activated hydrophilic gel, designed for use in affinity chromatography and as a carrier for immobilization of en zymes, can couple with amino or thiol groups of ligands. Stable, leak-resistant secondary amine or thioether bonds are

formed between the matrix and ligand. BioProbe International, Inc. 421

SRM SRM 1650, Diesel Particulate Matter, is intended to help evaluate analytical methods for the determination of trace organic constituents on diesel particu late matter or materials with a similar matrix. It has certified values for fluoranthene, pyrene, benz[a]anthracene, benzo [a] pyrene, benzo [ghi] perylene, and 1-nitropyrene. Information values for phenanthracene, chrysene, benzo[fc]fluoranthene, benzo[e]pyrene, perylene, 9-fluorenone, 2-nitrofluorene, 7-nitrobenz [a] anthracene, and 6-nitrobenzo[a]pyrene are provided. NBS 423

Software Matrix computation PC-MATLAB, an IBM PC, PC-XT, and PC-AT compatible program, specializes in matrix computing and accepts com

mands in the standard math notation for matrix operations. Capabilities include eigenvalues, eigenvectors, matrix arith metic and inversion, linear-equation so lution, fast Fourier transforms, convolu tions, and multivariate statistical calcu lations. The MathWorks 425 Quality control NWA Quality Analyst generates vari able, attribute, and miscellaneous con trol charts. Data manipulation manage ment capabilities as well as common statistical tests and procedures are in cluded. Northwest Analytical, Inc. 427 Chemical information processing The Chemist's Personal Software Se ries, designed to store, retrieve, dis play, and print information, runs on the IBM PC, XT, or AT. Programs available are ChemBase, a molecule and reac tion data base; ChemText, a word pro cessor; ChemTalk, which turns a PC into a terminal compatible with MDL's mainframe software; and ChemHost, which performs operations re quested by ChemTalk.
