CLASSIFIED SECTION Faculty Position in Environmental Policy Analysis and Management Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Applications are invited for a tenure-track position at any level in environmental policy analysis and management. The successful candidate will hold at least one degree in a science or engineering field, and a PhD in engineering, environmental science, policy analysis, or closely related field. He or she will teach and conduct research in one or more of the following areas: risk assessment, decision theory, and environmental control strategies and systems optimization. The area of environmental policy specialization is open, but expertise in at least one of the following areas would be an advantage: air quality, hazardous and solid waste, water quality, or environmental health. FACULTY POSITION IN CIVIL ENGINEERING WITH ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING SPECIALTY The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla (UMR) invites applications for a tenure/tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Environmental Engineering commencing January 1,1997. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will have a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and an earned doctorate degree with research emphasis on environmental engineering. The candidate's interests may be in any area of environmental engineering although expertise in biological or physicochemical operations in water, wastewater, industrial, or hazardous waste treatment is preferred. Applicants should possess or eventually be eligible for registration as a professional engineer in the state of Missouri. The position will require the teaching of environmental engineering courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, externally-funded research program and to direct masters and doctoral level research. The successful candidate will be expected to complement and interact with existing faculty in environmental engineering and related fields. Graduate research in the Environmental Engineering Program is conducted primarily in the Civil Engineering Department's Environmental Research Center which is equipped with state-of-the-art analytical and experimental instruments. Additionally, environmental research is supported by close collaboration with the Environmental Trace Substance Laboratory (part of the Center for Environmental Science and Technology) located on the UMR campus.

Phytotech, Inc. is a developmental stage environmental biotechnology company that is pioneering the use of plants for the treatment and removal of hazardous waste. Phytotech is seeking an experienced R&D director to oversee the scientific development of the Company ranging from basic research through field trials. The Director of Research will be responsible for supervising research on the uptake and translocation of heavy metals from soils and water. This will encompass directing a multidisciplinary group of scientists and engineers in applied aspects of soil chemistry, engineering modeling, plant physiology, agronomy, and molecular biology. The Research Director will also supervise field trials of soil and water treatment by plants. This demanding position requires a Ph.D. in either plant biology, soil chemistry, environmental engineering or a related discipline, 10+ years experience in research, and 5+ VGors of research management experience. Prior experience supervising field trials is a plus.
