Coffee Cans as Desiccators We have found that coffee cans fitted with a piece of asbestos hoard and some desiccant serves as a very effective substitute for the classic desiccator. The tightly fitting plastic lid which was designed to keep the aroma of the coffee in also keeps air out, We have used this idea for the past several years for m l i n g mcibles in the laboratory and for storing chemicals over extended periods of time. In a time when the recycling of materials is assuming an added importance in our lives, putting this usually discarded item to a new use can reinforce environmental considerations to the studentiespecially if he supplies the coffee can himself.
