Pittsburgh Conference Dates Set The Thirteenth Pittsburgh Confer ence on Analytical Chemistry and Ap plied Spectroscopy, sponsored by the Analytical Chemistry Group (Pitts burgh Section, ACS) and the Spectros copy Society of Pittsburgh, will be held at the Penn-Sheraton Hotel in Pitts burgh, March 5 to 9. Symposia on Chemical Analysis of Metals, Gas Chromatography, Raman Spectroscopy, Spectroscopic Studies of Polymers, and Vacuum Spectroscopy are planned. In addition, original papers on all phases of analytical chem istry and spectroscopy are invited. The number of papers included in the program will be limited. All papers will be evaluated by the program commit tee before acceptance. Authors plan

ning to submit papers should write for "Regulations Governing Papers." The absolute deadline for receipt of 150 word abstracts is October 16. Again this year the Exposition of Modern Laboratory Equipment will in clude more than 100 exhibitors. The Program Committee Chairman is Dr. C. F. Glick, Applied Research Laboratory, United States Steel Corp., Monroeville, Pennsylvania. The Ex position Committee Chairman is Mr. R. B. Fricioni, Allegheny-Ludlum Steel Corp., Brackenridge, Pa.

New NBS Laboratories Ground was broken for the new $104 million laboratories of the National Bu reau of Standards in mid-June. The center, to consist of 20 buildings, will be located on a 555 acre site in Gaitherburg, Md. The new facilities will replace the in adequate and outmoded research facili ties presently jn use in Washington,
