The compound is finding growing applications as a combustion control additive, as a high temperature lubricant, as an intermediate for thermally stable polymers and radiation resistant polymers, and also as an ultraviolet absorber, the company says. Aleuritic acid is available in commercial quantities from William Zinsser & Co., Inc., New York, N.Y. The acid is being offered at a quantity price of $5.75 per lb. Aleuritic acid can be used in many diversified fields, such as pharmaceuticals, plasticizers, binding agents, and adhesives. C8
Binder for starch-based warp sizes for fiber blends is available from Polymer Industries, Springdale, Conn. Polyfilm B-2 is a water-dilutable solution of acrylic resin specially formulated to improve film strength, surface, and adhesion of starch to synthetic and natural fibers. It is effective on a wide range of synthetic fibers and blends, and it reduces warp breaks, the company says. C9
Ammonium metatungstate is available in commercial quantities from Sylvania Electric Products, New York, N.Y. The alkali-free, water-soluble, ammonium metatungstate may be
used to prepare tungsten catalysts which control chemical reactions. The petroleum refining industry is a potential user of the chemical for reforming catalysts, and the chemical is also potentially useful for electroplating solutions, and for a variety of reactions including oxidation, hydroxylation, hydrogenation, and polymerization, the company says. Five new barium organic salts are available in development quantities from FMC Corp., Mineral Products Division, New York, N.Y. The new chemicals are barium phytate, barium sulfostearate, barium benzenesulfonate, barium hydrogen cyanurate, and barium dihydrogen cyanurate. Their recommended uses include adhesion and hardness improvers for waterthinned paints, flexibility improvers for solvent-thinned paints, in cutting and metal working and grinding compounds, as slip agents for polymers, as rust preventatives for oils and greases, and as vinyl stabilizers.
