The AnalysisKomputer Interface We are pleased to announce that a new feature series titled A/C INhas been established under the guidance of Contributing Editor Raymond E. Dewy of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. The Analysis/Computer Interface, the place at which these two independent systems meet under the expert direction of Professor Dessy, will join the other feature series in the A-pages. For the past 54 yearsthe JOURNAL has consistently attempted to anticipate and contribute to the fostering of important new developments in analytical chemistry. A particularly effective means of informing our readership has been the use of feature series in the A-pages. The monthly INSTRUMENTATION column, started in 1946 by Professor Ralph Muller of New York University, was one of the first such features, and it has continued over the years to have a major impact on the development of analytical chemistry. In addition to INSTRUMENTATION, other popular features that address topics of current interest to our discipline include THE ANALYTICAL APPROACH, FOCUS, REGULATIONS, and REPORT. For some time now the staff has recognized the increasing impact of computers on analytical chemistry and has been searching for an appropriate format, consistent with the goals of the JOURNAL, for presentation of new concepts and information in this vital area. That this need exists has been reinforced by the spectacular growth of computers in analytical chemistry projected to 1985 by the recent study, “The Analytical Instrument Market for Computers and Related Systems,” published by Centcom, Ltd., the advertising management for ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY. It should also be noted that the ACS has, for some years, been publishing the Journal of Chemical Information and Computer Science, which covers certain aspects of computer science and chemistry. We are pleased that the new Editor of this journal is the distinguished analytical chemist, Professor Thomas L. Isenhour of the University of North Carolina. However, we felt that the readers of ANALYTICALCHEMISTRYrequired a somewhat different emphasis, one directed to the practicing analytical chemist. This month’s EDITORS’ COLUMN on page 1002 A describes the scope of this latest feature. We are confident our readers and its will find its content in keeping with the mission of the JOURNAL tradition of quality. TERFACE
