COXDUCTANCE OF THE ALKALI HALIDES. 11. CESIUM IODIDE IN DIOXANE-WATER MIXTURES'p2 BY JOHN E. LIND,J R . , 3 AND RAYMOND M. FUOSS Vontribution No. 1659 from the Sterling Ghemislrg Laboratory of Yale University, New Haven, C o m . Received March 16, 1961

The condui3tance of cesium iodide a t 25' was measured in dioxane-water mixtures covering the range of dielectric constant 12.81 D 78.54. The data conform to the Fuoss conductance equation within the experimental precision of 0.010.057,, in the range of concentration where !u does not exceed 0.2. As in the case of potassium chloride, the contact distance (25 was found to vary from 5.04 to 3.04 A.; analysis of the data suggests that the linear coefficient J in the conductance equation and also the activity coefficient require further theoretical study for the case of small ions. The limiting conductances give a hydrodynamic contact distance of 2.93 while the association constants are best reproduced using avalue of 4.10 .&.
