Microtome-Cryostat Harris-International Model CT has provision for mounting a rust-proof microtome in the evaporator. The sample to be sectioned is quick-frozen on the microtome specimen holder by a C 0 2 quick freeze attachment. As

each section is cut, an anti-roll device keeps it flat against the microtome knife, preventing the sample from rolling or curling. Finished slides, ready for examination, can be made from fresh samples in as little as three minutes or less, according to the company. The unit can be operated with the cover open, still maintaining safe temperatures within the evaporator— between - 1 0 ° and - 2 0 ° C. The unit

Collecting Chromatographic Fractions For Infrared Analysis Two new developments from Connecticut Instrument Corporation greatly simplify the problem of obtaining infrared spectra on chromatographic fractions. To accommodate the extremely small quantities of material ordinarily produced in a single fraction, C.I.C. has designed an ultra-micro cavity absorption cell with which good spectra can be obtained on one microliter of sample and often considerably less. Available in pathlengths as low as .050 mm and in all infrared transmitting materials, the Ultra-Micro Cavity Cell may be used in any spectrometer equipped with a beam condenser. The other C.I.C. development is a unique fraction collector which permits the collection of a gas chromatographic fraction directly in the micro cell. Since the transfer step from collector to cell is eliminated, the efficiency of sample recovery is greatly improved. The Ultra-Micro Cavity Cells and the GC Fraction cic NEWSLETTER Collector are just two of many instrument accessories .—.- — produced by Connecticut Instrument Corporation. Others „^„„„„,„„.,„„..„.„,„ include Macro Cavity Cells, variable space cells, and polished salt plates.
