NEWS sessions outlined above. A presentation by one or more invited authorities in each field will open each session, follo\ved by prepared or spontaneous contributions by other participants. Since much of the program is devoted to subjects relating to the accuracy and precision of the gas chromatographic method, a standard sample will be circulated to all registrants prior to the meeting. I t is anticipated that each registrant will perform a quantitative analysis of this sample which can be included in a statistical analysis of results at the meeting. An instrumentation information facility will also be available to participants in the meeting at which technical experts on instrumentation representing commercial manufacturers of gas chromatographic equipment will be available to discuss the capabilities and specifications of available chromatographic systems. General chairman is Nathaniel Brenner, The Perkin-Elmer Corp., Norwalk, Conn., who is also vice chairman of ASTM Committee E-19. Preregistration is required.

Chemical Microscopy Course A course in chemical microscopy will be offered by the McCronc Research Institute, July 9 to 27, at Chicago. The course is entitled "The Industrial Use of the Polarizing Microscope." It will include microscope optics and illumination, micrometry, crystal morphology and optics, fusion methods, and specialized topics. Registration is limited. Details arc available from J. A. Peffner, McCrone Research Institute, 451 E. 31st, Chicago 16, 111.

Microscopy Symposium Micro-62 is the title of a three-day symposium in microscopy to be held in Chicago, June 11 to 13. Originated in 1948, these meetings are now carried on as a service by the McCrone Research Institute. Subjects to be covered include apparatus, techniques, and applications of microscopy —whether light, electron, or x-ray. The program will consist of formal papers, open forums, exhibits, and discussion groups including a formal session on "How to Use Technicians as Professional Microscopists." Information and registration forms may be obtained from the McCrone Research Institute, 451 E. 31st, Chicago 16, 111.

A versatile

medium-priced mass spectrometer for $33,900 For accuracy, sensitivity, and resolving power CEC's new 21-130 Mass Spectrometer is superior to any other in its price r a n g e . . . and equals within its mass range the performance of the largest $60,000 instrument. Specifically designed for laboratory use, it has such high-performance features built in as a micromanometer and a 5-galvanometer, directwriting oscillograph, plus a stainless steel inlet system. And yet, its price is $33,900. How is this possible? Credit CEC's 25 years of mass spectrometer experience for effecting the economies.
