Construction N e w s Chemical The Tennessee Eastman Corp., Kingsport, Tenn., a subsidiary of t h e Eastman Kodak Co., Kodak Park, Rochester, Ν . Υ., h a s approved plans for the construction of t w o additions to its local plant, each one-story, reported t o cost approximately $75,000, including equipment. Work will b e placed under way a t once. The company's engineering department i s in charge. E. I. du Pont de Nemours 6V Co., Wilmington, Del., is planning t h e removal of the laboratory units of i t s smokeless powder division, n o w located at Brandywine, near Wilmington, t o its properties at Carney's Point, N . J., where such operations •will be concentrated in t h e future. T h e work will consist of t h e erection of several new buildings a t t h e last-noted location, including a n e w chemical laboratory, ballistic building, and other works structures, reported t o cost approximately $200,000, including equipment. The space vacated a t Brandywine will b e used a t a later date for expansion of t h e experimental station of t h e chemical division of t h e company, now occupying an adjoining site. D u Pont Engineering Co., du P o n t Bldg., Wilmington, an affiliated organization, will b e in charge. The Board of Vocational Education, Manitowoc, Wis., is planning t h e installation of a complete chemical division, in­ cluding laboratories, etc., i n its proposed n e w t w o - and threestory vocational training school, for which plans have been authorized. A fund of $200,000 is being arranged f o r the struc­ ture. William J. Raeuber, Manitowoc Savings B a n k Bldg., Manitowoc, is architect. A site has been selected a t Clark and Fourteenth Sts. The Tennessee Corp., Copper Hill, Tenn. (formerly known a s t h e Tennessee Copper & Chemical Corp.), is said t o have plans maturing for a n expansion a n d improvement program a t its local agricultural chemical and mineral plant, including new operating units, remodeling of certain present buildings, machinery, and other mechanical equipment, etc. The entire program i s reported t o cost over $1,000,000. T h e company's engineering department will b e in charge of t h e project. The Board of Trustees, Fiske University, Nashville, Tenn., has approved plans for t h e construction of a n e w chemistry building a t the institution, with laboratories and research fa­ cilities in all branches. I t will be three stories, estimated t o cost approximately $165,000, including equipment. Contract for the building only has been awarded t o the Roek Construction Co., 137 Fourth Ave., North, Nashville.· Henry C. Hibbs, American Trust Bldg., same city, is architect. T h o m a s E . Jones is president of t h e university. McKesson & Robbins, Inc., Glasmere Ave., Bridgeport, Conn., manufacturer of drugs, chemical specialties, etc., h a s asked bids o n t h e general contract for a new three-story a n d basement building a t its plant in t h e Fairfield section, 100 X 1 4 0 ft., designed for increased capacity, reported to cost o v e r $100,000, including equipment. It is proposed to make t h e building award and proceed with work on t h e superstructure at a n early date. Fletcher-Thompson, Inc., Bridgeport, Conn., is architect and engineer.
