• Labeling machine for round con tainers offered by Atlantic Supply fea tures an automatic label feed and a pivoted frame which opens for easy cleaning. Company says the machine lessens to a matter of minutes the time required for changing from one size container to another. Machine can handle round bottles, canisters, and drums ranging from 4-oz. bottles to 5-gal. steel drums. Machine is con structed throughout of corrosionresistant materials. C2 • Disposable p o l y e t h y l e n e plastic and cardboard container for battery elec trolyte is being used by Willard Storage Battery in merchandising charged dry batteries. Packaging device was de veloped by Scholle Northlake in co operation with Willard, who is serving as wholesaler for die n e w package. Willard says the carton is sturdy enough to withstand a five-story drop, fully loaded, and believes the package may alter battery merchandising prac tices as it makes possible the packag ing, shipping, and storing of battery electrolyte in inexpensive, disposable containers, thus stimulating manufac ture and sale of charged dry batteries -which may b e stored for considerable periods of time. • Liquid filling machine offered by MR M has a novel feed arrangement which permits the filling of containers of any size or shape without changing the feed setup. Feed arrangement of machine consists of a series of flat plates mounted on a chain. Containers are fed onto these plates and carried under filling nozzles b y moving chain. As the plates are permanently synchro nized with the filling nozzles, all stars and guides are eliminated and any shape or size container is accommo dated. Machine handles containers from fractional ounce to 16-oz. sizes at production speeds up to 7 5 per minute. C4 Another M RM development is a labeling machine which is capable of changeover from any shape or size label from a fraction of an inch to. 6 in. by 6 in. (or larger) in a matter of minutes. Changeover from one size container to another is done in about 15 minutes and, company says, re quires a minimum of interchangeable parts. Also labels can b e applied to flat, curved, or recessed surfaces and the coating never oozes out to the edges. Another feature is c[uick changeover from glue to thermoplastic operation. C5

Opening Instruments Unnecessary Snap-Open-Sack developed by Hudson Pulp & Paper provides a quick-opening de vice for multiwall bag users throughout the chemical, fertilizer, feed, grain, rock products, and other industries. The quickopening device is achieved by a series of small perforations in one corner of the bag. Merely grasping tape at corner and pulling sharply upward starts an opening which can be stopped and held at any point for controlled spout pouring, if desired C6
