Regardless of the polarity, you can obtain precise thixotropic control with CAB-O-SIL. In non-polar systems, CAB-O-SIL can be added directly to secure the desired degree of thickening. In polar systems, CAB-O-SIL, plus a non-ionic additive such as Triton X-100, can achieve thixotropic control comparable to a non-polar system. Settling can be avoided in paints. Flow can be controlled in knife coatings, dipping and spraying applications of plastics. Resin sag in polyester and epoxy resins can be eliminated. Precise control of water-base systems is possible. These, and many product improvements, can be had with only small amounts of CAB-O-SIL. CAB-O-SIL is a dry, pyrogenic silica with a particle size of only 0.015 microns and an enormous surface area of 200 square meters per gram. It disperses almost instantly in most liquid systems.
