E AND MOLD BINDERS. THE DECADE AHEAD, U.S. FOUNDRIES WILL NEED ENOUGH TO BOND 31.5 SQUARE MILES OF SAND, ONE FOOT DEEP. &BS"

SOME OF THEM WILL COME 'FROM ASHLAND. ^ The need for core and mold binder resins in the U.S. foundry industry is estimated to be 1,320,000,000 pounds over the next ten years.* At a 1.5% resin-to-sand ratio, that predicted requirement would bond 44,000,000 tons of sand. And that much sand would cover 20,160 acres or 31.5 square miles to a depth of one jfoot. Over a billion pounds is l obviously a lot of core and mold binders. But in view of !their importance in fashioning much of the nation's industrial output, that projected volume is not too surprising. Nor is Ashland's reputation as a leadLester B. Knight & Associates, Inc

ing innovator in cold box and no-bake technology, or its position as a major worldwide producer and supplier of foundry chemicals. A position that serves to further broaden Ashland's already broad base as a manufacturer and distributor of essential industrial chemicals. Ashland Chemical Company, P.O.
