e thank Xiaoyun Li for pointing out the following two mistakes in our article. The standard free energy of proton exchange in the line after eq 5 is incorrectly written with a negative sign. It should be ΔG0H+exch = RTln(KaAA/Kaw) . The calculated values, however, are of the correct sign, and so the mistake does not affect the interpretation. The denominator of the second term on the right of eq 13 is incorrectly written. Equation 13 should be Kd =

⎞ [■−O−] ⎛ 1 ⎜ ⎟ + · K K ⎜ eq7 eq8 intr zF Ψ / RT ⎟ [OH−] ⎝ 1014 ·K aS e ⎠ +

1 −

(14 − pK aAA )

[OH ]· 10

non ‐ elec zF Ψ / RT − ·Kd,AA solvo + Kd,AA solvoe

(13)

The change in eq 13 does not affect the interpretation.
