Educ. 2009, 86, 311–315 In my recent article in this Journal, “The Science of Food and Cooking: A Non-Science Majors Course” (1), the citation for reference 10 about the “inquiry wheel” model should have been to the original document on the model and not to a report on the model. One of the authors of this model, William Harwood, has also told me (2) about the updated version of his model of the scientific method (3), shown in Figure 1: The model has been updated, particularly the image and the name to address criticism that the components are steps that are followed in some pre-determined order (going around the wheel, for instance). The new name is the activity model (calling the components “activities” that scientists do) and a new image was created by graphic designer Chris Miller.
