Overall findings and conclusions are still correct but there are some minor errata in our manuscript1 for which we present following corrections: (1) First of all, the model has been run with the correct equations, that is, the presented results are correct. The formulations of some equations are, though, wrong in the respective publication and this impedes reproducibility. These issues occurred because the respective computer code was written in another manner, for example, with numbering inversely starting from the bottom to the top layer. Regarding eq 13 on page 17 089, the interception fraction should be that of the above layer and not of the current layer, that is, “f i” needs to replaced by “f i−1” (see corrected eq 1). The same also goes for eq. 4 of the original manuscript. In eq 17 on the same page, it should be “PIs” instead of “WOs−1” at the end of the equation since the total input of particulate matter in water (coming from the above layer) should be considered and not only the washed off particulate matter amount (see corrected eq 2). Likewise in eq. 10 of the original manuscript it should be "Is" instead of "IS−1". The final corrected equations for particulate matter are hence: PIi = WOi − 1 + (1 − fi − 1 ) × PIi − 1

Combining these equations leads to a better interpretation. Particulate matter removed (PR) is the sum of the washed of particulate matter amount of the lowest foliage layer s (WOs) and the nonintercepted fraction (1 − fs) of the particulate matter in water input originating from the above layer (s − 1): its washed off and nonintercepted amounts. PR = WOs + (1 − fs ) × (WOs − 1 + (1 − fs − 1 ) × PIs − 1) (3)

(2) On page 10 792 is written: “For the year 2010 this results in a benefit of 1073 euro ha−1 yr−1 for removed PM2.5, compared to 4763 euro ha−1 yr−1 if only deposition without···” These values are slightly incorrect due to a minor reference issue in excel when calculating the monetary amounts. It should be “For the year 2010 this results in a benefit of 1107 euro ha−1 yr−1 for removed PM2.5, compared to 4714 euro ha−1 yr−1 if only deposition without···”. © XXXX American Chemical Society
