he February, 2012, issue of ACS Combinatorial Science featured a cover image highlighting the work of Marcaurelle and colleagues (“A Build/Couple/Pair Strategy for the Synthesis of Stereochemically Diverse Macrolactams via Head-to-Tail Cyclization”). The explanatory caption for that cover was inadvertently omitted from the printed edition. It is reproduced here, with our apologies. “Great art picks up where Nature ends.” −Marc Chagall. Just as Nature serves as inspiration in art, it also serves as inspiration in chemistry. Macrocyclic natural products were a source of inspiration in the design of a library of stereochemically diverse macrolactams using a “build/couple/pair” synthesis strategy.
