titanium process equipment? Titanium, a relatively n e w m a t e r i a l of construction, shows great promise in reducing corrosion costs u n d e r severe chemical conditions. A s corrosioneers, Pfaudler has studied its characteristics, developed welding techniques, designed and built quite a range of titanium p r o c ess equipment. Some are s h o w n above and others a r e being f a b r i cated now. Because production costs of t i t a n i u m have been greatly decreased, titanium should now be considered as a material of construction w h e r ever it is economically feasible to do so. It has superior resistance to nitric acid solutions at high t e m p e r a t u r e s , chlorinated organics and inorganic chloride solutions, a n d shows e x c e l -

lent resistance to m i x t u r e s of s u l phuric and nitric acids and also to aqua regia. T h e r e are also other materials which provide excellent chemical resistance, among which is Pfaudler glassed steel. Each case should b e considered on its own merits. O u r main point is this: When y o u a r e u p against any kind of a c o r r o sion problem, Pfaudler is ready and anxious to give you the benefit of its 73 years of experience in designing and fabricating equipment t h a t will do the best job at the lowest over-all service cost. If titanium is indicated, you can rely on Pfaudler k n o w - h o w to do just that. Your i n quiries a r e welcomed.

Copper and copper alloy equipment . · .

For services involving acid solutions of low oxidizing capacity, copper and copper alloys may be the best answer to your problem. Pfaudler's long experience in building copper vessels and heat exchangers assures you of top-quality engineering and workmanship. You will also find Pfaudler prices competitive. Let us quote on your requirements for equipment of this type.

The petroleum industry, like c h e m i cal processing, finds in glassed steel equipment a material of const ruction which is proving most economical in the battle against corrosion. Great improvement in the? resistivity of Pfaudler glass and i t s application to many different t v p e s of open hearth steel designs, are mainly responsible for this trend. F^faudler glass, nowresistar to all a c i d s (except hydrofluoric) and to a l k a l i n e solutions to pH 12 at 212° E \ , p r o vides about as much flexibility as you can find in any one m a t e r i a l of construction. Used in trie form of r e a c t o r s , columns, settlers, mixers, s t o r a g e tanks, pipe, fittings and valves, F'faudler equipment is giving excellent service for reactions Involving hydrochloric acid, chlorinated solvents, pesticides, vapor degie^Bsing solvents, e~le. It is also used in the hydration of olefins,

to prevent corrosion by s u l p h u r i c acid, in certain phases of producing cumene-derived phenol aind byproduct acetone in polyestezr resins and synthetic fibres. Installations of Pfaudler glassed steel polymerizers are so n u m e r o u s that standardized designs ha^ve been developed. Glassed steel can be cleaned quickly after each run; a build-up of product within t r i e vessel is easily prevented. In petroleum refining operations, corrosion d u r i n g crude distillation has been minimized. Glass lielps to prevent passage of h y d r o g e n to the steel surface, eliminating a t o m i c hydrogen attack. There are o t h e r applications t o o numerous to include here.
