fast. Valued at $50bn in 2011, it is poised to benefit from both strong economic performance and positive regulatory developments. Brazil, with its population of 200m people, rapid economic growth, increasing healthcare spending and booming generic drug sector, is well established as a key area for many pharma firms. Now, as the region develops more fully, attention is also turning to Mexico and Argentina. Reflecting that wider focus, the organisers of CPhI South America have formed new partnerships with trade associations throughout the region. Alliances have also been forged with DIKAJOB and Pharma Connection, two of the leading social-media networks in South American pharma.

CPhI’s core focus is pharma ingredients, and the event attracts 59% more visitors interested in this area than any other show in the region. However, it also offers invaluable themed areas devoted to outsourced services (the ICSE Pavilion) and the biotechnology sector (the BioPh Trail). For visitors who already know which individual exhibitors they would like to meet, a ‘matchmaking’ service is available that allows meetings to be pre-arranged.
