CPhI Worldwide returns to popular Madrid BioPh brings more emphasis on bio and pharma convergence
This autumn’s CPhI Worldwide 2009 will mark the 20th anniversary of the pharma ingredients industry’s leading exhibition – which makes its second visit to Madrid on Tuesday 13 – Thursday 15 October. Organisers UBM International Media expect to host over 1,500 exhibitors – and are looking to rival the 2008 milestone attendance in Frankfurt of over 25,000. As market conditions become more challenging, CPhI expects to reinforce its recognition as a uniquely cost effective marketing and networking platform. The convenient layout of IFEMA’s Feria de Madrid proved popular for the exhibition’s first visit in 2005, which recorded over 21,000 attendees. That event also launched the co-located P-MEC pharma machinery exhibition, which returns this time alongside the ICSE contract services expo - and the debut of BioPh. The co-located exhibitions form the world’s largest dedicated pharmaceutical ingredients, services and equipment exhibition and networking event – being the industry’s recognised annual meeting place. And to reflect the increasing convergence of pharma and biotech in global healthcare, 2009 in Madrid will see the formal launch of the all-new BioPh: Bio-solutions for Pharma. With a focus on biotech’s increasing role in drug innovation and production. BioPh is a fourth exhibition, seminar and partnering platform under the CPhI Worldwide event umbrella. BioPh will be a natural focus for companies and organisations connected with R&D of new biotech treatment methods. Pharma companies actively looking for partners to help develop bio-pharma treatments and processes can access over 120 partner meeting opportunities. And beyond BioPh exhibitors, around 300 CPhI exhibitors supplying bio ingredients will form the BioPh trail. “This year’s exceptional market conditions are speeding the convergence of the bio and pharma business models – with CPhI Worldwide as a proven networking platform for ingredients and production interests”, said Event Director Annemieke Timmers. “After successful development of the ICSE contract services and P-MEC equipment events, BioPh is a logical step aligned with the continuing changes in pharma services”. Commenting on the industry outlook she added: “Numbers and business models are naturally adjusting in reaction to the steep challenges now being experienced across the healthcare innovation and production space. Industry events will similarly reflect these adjustments, though we’re confident that the outlook for the CPhI family of events continues to be strong”. New features for CPhI 2009 will also include a Where Pharma Meets combination of modular conference sessions on the pre-show afternoon of Monday 12 October. The modules will reflect a full conference programme, with two tracks, covering the latest sourcing trends and strategies – and complemented by technical sessions. The full programme will be announced in due course. And back after a highly successful 2008 debut will be the Breakfast Briefings on critical industry issues issues, being run in conjunction with CPhI Conferences. Also held in partnership with the European Fine Chemicals Group (EFCG), the Briefings will take place between 08.00 and 09.30 on the first and second days of the event. Highlights returning this year include the sixth annual CPhI Innovation Awards and the Speakers’ Corner features within both CPhI and ICSE. As announced in Frankfurt, this year’s Madrid events will also reflect the current extension of CPhI, via digital platforms, into a “24/7/365” information brand. www.wherepharmameets.com is the gateway enabling easy access to all CPhI/ICSE/P-MEC/BioPh exhibition websites, CPhI Conferences, webinars, product casts, videos and searchable directories. The package includes the WhatsNewInPharma weekly e-newsletter and the TV channel WherePharmaMeetsTV. Also marking the continuing integration across the pharma industry’s business model - and the increasing role of contract services - is the revised ICSE branding, bringing closer alignment to the CPhI “host” identity. CPhI Worldwide, with ICSE, BioPh and P-MEC, are staged by Netherlands-based UBM International Media. Worldwide locations of annual sister events for the pharma sector include Japan (April); China (June); South America - Brazil (August) and India (November). www.cphi.com, www.icsexpo.com, www.bioph-online.com and www.p-mec.com.
