Leakproof Centrifugal Blower H a n d l i n g corrosive, toxic, a n d radioactive gases at high t e m p e r a ­ tures always has been a p r o b l e m . N o w a centrifugal blower has been developed for the j o b . T h e u n i t consists of a centrifugal blower a n d c a n n e d m o t o r sealed in a heavy stainless steel enclosure. T h e bear­ ings are pressurized by a n auxiliary p u m p impeller m o u n t e d on the m a i n impeller shaft of the blower. R a d i o ­ active c o n t a m i n a t i o n a n d corrosiveness of the w a t e r in the rotor a n d bearing cavity are limited by laby­ r i n t h seals at the water-gas interface. T h e blower will h a n d l e 20 c.f.m. of gas h a v i n g a specific gravity of 6 a n d will develop a 150-foot h e a d in a 2000-p.s.i. system.
