DAVISON CHEMICAL "Pacesetter"in Adsorbents As the world's largest producer of silica gel and the only producer of both silica gel and molecular sieves, Davison may already have the solution to your absorption problem. If not, one thing is sure. Davison has the expertise, the experience, the facilities, and the desire to

work with you in the development of the optimum adsorbent for your process or product needs. If there's an adsorbent in your present or future . . . why not talk it over with Davison, the Pacesetter. We've got the chemistry to make things happen.

SILICA GEL MOLECULAR SIEVES

This chemically inert, non-toxic, non-deliquescent, dimensionally stable, and non-corrosive material is the highest capacity adsorbent available. It is compatible with all materials except strong alkalies and hydrofluoric acid. Because of its high surface area and enormous number of interconnecting sub-micron sized pores, it has the ability to adsorb over 40 percent of its own weight in water. It can also differentiate between certain molecules and thus act as a selective adsorbent. The action of silica gel is truly reversible. It will totally desorb water at about 350°F and upon cooling will be capable of re-adsorbing to its full capacity. This cycle can be repeated over and over again. Silica gel in static applications is used for packaging, insulating glass window units, and for cable splicing operations. In dynamic applications, it is used for drying air, gas and liquids in the chemical, petrochemical, refining, and other industries.

This crystalline alkali metal aluminosilicate with a three-dimensional interconnecting network structure of silica and alumina tetrahedra offers a new dimension in process control. Since the pores of the crystalline network are uniform rather than varied, molecular sieves can discriminate on the basis of the size and configuration of the molecules in a system. Davison, a leader in molecular sieves, has applied its vast experience in both adsorption and catalytic forming technology in the manufacture of this unique bead type product which possesses extremely high useful capacity and low pressure drop and which is suitable for bulk loading and pneumatic conveying. In addition to 3k 4k, 5k and 10X (13X) types, tailored products are available to meet special requirements. The unique manufacturing method used by Davison supplies customers with some important advantages: high attrition resistance, rapid rate of adsorption, high useful capacity, low impurity adsorption (due to a minimum non-selective surface), high thermal and steam stability. Adsorption is almost totally reversible.
