Dedication to the Special Volume for Dietmar Seyferth† This special volume of Organometallics is dedicated to the many contributions of our first editor-in-chief, Dietmar Seyferth, who transitioned to Editor Emeritus during 2010, and who will be honored as “Founding Editor” on the journal masthead starting in 2011. Since the birth of modern organometallic chemistry in the early 1950s, this field has played a central role in modern science and technology, and in enriching our daily lives. Indeed, three of the Chemistry Nobel Prizes in the past decade, including the recent 2010 Prize, illustrate the great importance of modern organometallic chemistry to science and society. Through his own scholarly research and dedication to making Organometallics a focal point for disseminating the very best research of the organometallic chemistry community, Dietmar Seyferth has made lasting contributions to this field. This Festschrift volume and a symposium held at the fall 2010 American Chemical Society National Meeting in Boston celebrate Dietmar’s role in this vibrant and multifaceted area of chemical research. The remainder of this Festschrift introduction provides a personalized biographical account of Dietmar’s life and times, as well as a more formal CV and publication list, detailing his numerous contributions and recognitions. What follows then is a celebratory banquet of modern organometallic chemistry in all its many elegant varieties;enjoy! Having worked closely with Dietmar in his role as Editor-in-Chief, we wish to thank him for the great dedication and energy he has devoted to this enterprise. We also wish him all our best in his new undertakings, and will continue to value his counsel in his capacity as Founding Editor.
