Correction Detection of Diethyl Phthalate in Perfumes by Extractive Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry Konstantin Chingin, Huanwen Chen,* Gerardo Gamez, Liang Zhu, and Renato Zenobi* (Anal. Chem. 2009, 81, 123–129)

In the above paper, a small error needs to be corrected. The sentences “In 2005, the European Union banned the use of six phthalates including DEP in children’s products” (page 123) and “Many countries are starting to regulate DEP contents in products such as toys.” (page 129) are not 100% correct, because regulatory efforts are generally not specific to DEP. A more accurate wording is “In 2005, the European Union banned the use of some phthalates in children’s products” and “Many countries are starting to regulate phthalate contents in products such as toys.” To obtain more information about regulatory efforts, see, for example, http://pubs.acs.org/cen/ news/83/i28/8328notw5.html. Some phthalates are also banned in children’s toys by 14 other countries including Japan, Mexico, and Argentina: http://www. center4research.org/pdf/Phthalates.pdf.
