Rapid Determinations of the Trace and Minor Elements in Tin-Lead Solders by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry Jae Y. Hwang and Linda M. Sandonato Instrumentation Laboratory, Inc., 113 Hartwell Aue., Lexington, Mass. 021 73 Tin-lead solders were dissolved in a special acid mixture of fluoroboric acid and nitric acid. A 1% solder solution thus prepared was found to be adequate without further dilution in analyzing AI, Ag, As, Au, Bi, Cd, Cu, Fe, Ni, Sb, and Zn under the described experimental conditions by atomic absorption spectrometry. The present method is rapid, economical, and simple with better or equal detection limits compared to the optical emission spectrographic method, and has comparable precisions as opposed to the wet chemical methods.
