December 14-15, 1770, Tulane University, New Orleans, La., are the dates and place of the 37th Annual Chemical Engineering Symposium of the Division of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry. The Chairman i s Riki Kobayashi, and the Co-Chairman is Harry A. Deans, both professors of chernical engineering, William Marsh Rice University, Houston, Tex. 77001. The meeting is designed to interest analytical chemists, physical chemists, and chemical engineers in the quantification of gas-liquid, gas-solid, and liquid-liquid chromatography. Sew theories and experiments will be discussed to broaden understanding of the principles underlying chromatographic separations. If you wish to be a part of the program, please submit an abstract of the paper to the symposium chairman by June 1, 1770. Several outstanding invited speakers will be announced later. FIRST INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON CHEMlCAL REACTION ENGINEERING, JUNE 8-10, WASHINGTON, D. C.

The Division of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry of the American Chemical Society, The American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the European Federation of Chemical Engineers will present the First International Symposium on Chemical Reaction Engineering, June 8-1 0, 1770, at the Carnegie Institution, 1530 P St., N.W., Washington, D. C. The meeting is the culmjnation of several years’ planning among the Chemical Reaction Engineering and Kinetics and Catalysis National Program Committee Areas of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Applied Kinetics Committee of the American Chemical Society, and the Working Party on Chemical Reaction Engineering of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering.

INDUSTRIAL A N D ENGINEERING CHEMISTRY

The Symposium is an extension of the four previous European Symposia on Chemical Reaction Engineering, and the intent is to hold the meeting about every two years, alternating between the United States and Europe. There will be 10 half-day sessions, each beginning with an authoritative review of the state of the art by an international expert followed by about four research paper presentations. This arrangement will provide the audience with both an up-to-date survey of each area as well as details of some of the latest research. Chairman of the organizing committee is K. B. Bischoff, Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park, Md. 20742 (USA). The list of papers and registration information appear below. Special events and a ladies program are planned. The Special Events calendar will be mailed upon receipt of your preregistration form. Check the events of interest to you, and return the calendar as indicated. Tickets to Special Events can be purchased at the Special Events desk located in the registration area at the Institution. Cancellations and refund requests should be mailed to the Registration Chairman. Registrants must make their own hotel reservations. In view of the large influx of visitors in the late spring and early summer, hotel space should be booked as far in advance as possible. The Statler-Hilton is allowing a special rate for this conference only, but there are other good hotels and motels in the vicinity of the Carnegie Institution: The Mayflower (Connecticut Ave. a t De Sales St.), The Madison (15th and M Sts.), Sheraton Carlton (16th and K Sts.), the Executive House Motor Inn (16th St. and Rhode Island Ave.), two Holiday Inns (17th St. and Rhode Island Ave. and 15th St. and Rhode Island Ave.), and the Gramercy Inn (across from the 17th St. Holiday Inn).
