The Coleman Model 14 Spectrophotometer insures exact, rapid analysis wherever light is used as a laboratory tool for both routine and research work. A single selector switch permits its change to any one of the above uses. Its sensitivity and accuracy are adequate for the most critical analyst for whatever application it is used. When speed is important and many samples must be examined, the instrument's integral galvanometer may be used as a deflection meter and the corresponding density or transmittance values read directly from its scale to an accuracy of approximately 1.0% and at about 3 seconds after the sample is placed. For more precise analysis the galvanometer may be used as a null device, the circuit then being manually balanced by a precision potentiometer, permitting readings to an accuracy of 0.1 %. Measurements by this method require about twenty seconds per sample and overall precision is usually better than .5%.
